Anyone who knows about DJ speakers help?
i was looking at these speakers Pyle PPHP1598A (link below) i was wondering could i use them with a laptop. It says they are powered so i woun’nt need an amp right? so what would else would i need?

you could actually do the mixing in software, and all laptops have a built in sound card. You might get an external audio interface if the sound quality from the built in sound card is not suitable… not clean enough, can’t adjust level well enough, etc. I would try the built-in audio first. And you could get an external mixer if you prefer having a physical mixing board to work with. Vestax makes a USB mixer specially for laptops that works with mixing software.
But you will need a special cable that allows you to connect the audio output of the laptop to the input of the speakers. It should be a Y cable that has a male stereo mini-DIN connector on one end and two female XLR connectors on the other end. Then you need two mic cords at least 20 feet each. The mic cords connect the XLR out on your Y cable from the computer to the XLR in on each speaker. Depending on your setup, you might also need balancing transformers that convert the hi-impedance out from your computer to the low-impedance out that the speakers require. In that case get a different Y-cable: one that has stereo mini-DIN male plug on one end and two mono 1/4″ TRS jacks on the other end. The transformers go into the TRS jacks and provide XLR jacks at the other end. Your mic cables go into those XLR jacks. If you don’t have technical savvy the best way to figure this out is to take one or both speakers and your laptop to a music store that will let you try before you buy.
XLR connectors are “low impedance” professional connectors for mics. You need low impedance for long cable runs without signal loss.
And yes, you need MIC cords not speaker cords because these cords carry line-level signal from your computer NOT POWER to the speakers, which are self-powered.
