Jbl Speakers 5.1!
JBL SPEAKERS AND ONKYO RECEIVER
Jbl Speakers 5.1 Questions

How do I hook up my power speakers?
I just bought used JBL powered 10s and am confused what I can connect these to. Do I need a mixer? I have a 5.1 reveiver now, but am told you can’t hook up powered speakers to a powered receiver. I need to be schooled.Help! I also have a passive sub and center speaker. Are they compatible with powered speakers? Thanks
Sounds confusing. Powered speakers need a “line out” signal from your receiver. Do not attempt to hook up your powered JBL speakers to the speaker output jacks, you will blow them up. However your passive speakers should hook directly to the receiver’s “speaker out” spring connector.
JBL Marine Speakers
JBL is a brand that has become synonymous with quality products and excellent performance. JBL marine speakers are no different. While the JBL range may not be very extensive, it more than makes up for the lack of variety with quality. If you ever find yourself on a boat, you can be certain that it will be rocking JBL marine speakers.
The first thing you should take note of when buying JBL marine speakers is the durability. Since these speakers will have to brave a very harsh marine environment, durability is paramount. While no set of JBL marine speakers will ever be completely waterproof, you should look for the set that offers the greatest protection against water damage and other extreme weather conditions, including excessive heat, rain, etc.
The second thing you should consider when buying JBL marine speakers is the setup itself. Ideally, you would want at least 4 speakers and one subwoofer. If possible, you should also include an amplifier to enhance the audio quality. But the most important part of your speaker setup will be the subwoofer and the speakers.
The range of JBL marine speakers includes three speaker models:
1. JBL MS6100, 6-1/2″ (160mm) Dual-Cone Marine LoudspeakerPriced low at $56 for a pair, this is the entry level offering from JBL. While not the best in terms of performance, it is definitely one of the most durable marine speakers around, especially given the low price. Technically, the dual-cones produce clear, lucid sound. For entry level budgets, the MS6100 JBL marine speaker is a great choice.
2. JBL MS6200 6-1/2″ (160mm) 2-Way Marine LoudspeakerPriced at $75.96, this JBL offering looks great and offers a superior performance. The audio is crisp and clear, especially the mid and high ranges. Again, as with other JBL marine speakers, extra care has been taken to ensure durability in all weather conditions.
3. JBL MS9200 6″ x 9″ 2-way Marine LoudspeakerThe 6″ x 9″ setup is inherently superior to a 6.5″ setup, especially in low ranges. With this offering from JBL, the bass is great and it almost feels like you have a subwoofer. The audio quality is very high, and definitely superior to other models in the JBL range. Best of all, it is priced the same as the MS6200 6.5″ model at $75.
JBL offers only one subwoofer model, the MPS1000 10″ (250mm) subwoofer priced just a shade under $300. This is a very high quality subwoofer that works great in almost any setting and complements JBL marine speakers perfectly.
You should also invest in an amplifier. The MA6004 would fit your needs perfectly. It is a 4 channel full range amplifier that works seamlessly with JBL marine speakers and subwoofer to complete your boat sound system.
